Organic Cotton Pads and Pantyliners

Tampon Tribe organic pads are made with a 100% certified organic cotton top layer and absorbent core, a plant-based biodegradable back sheet and a vegan bio adhesive — with no plastic back sheet, no super-absorbent polymer, no fragrance, no chlorine and no titanium dioxide. Day pads are 240mm with 100ml absorbency; night pads are 290mm with 120ml absorbency and double wings. Pantyliners come individually wrapped in 24- and 48-counts. Pads and pantyliners start at $10.60, and every part composts.

What most "organic" pads actually are

This is the distinction worth spelling out, because it is where most brands stop short: many pads marketed as organic have an organic cotton top sheet only. The absorbent core is wood pulp plus a super-absorbent polymer, and the back sheet is polyethylene plastic. LOLA, for example, publishes its own pad composition as a GOTS-certified organic cotton topsheet with polypropylene, a polyethylene backsheet and wrapper, cellulose, and acrylic acid as the super-absorbent polymer in the core.

Tampon Tribe pads use organic cotton in the top layer and the core, with a plant-based back sheet. That is why they compost and most organic-labelled pads do not. The full material list for every Tampon Tribe product is published on What's Actually In It.
