Is It Normal for Periods to Be Irregular at First?

Yes completely normal.

When you first start getting your period, your body is still learning how to ovulate. And without regular ovulation, your cycle won’t be regular either.

That means your periods may:

  • Come early or late
  • Skip months
  • Be light one cycle and heavier the next
  • Change length or flow

This can last 1–2 years while your hormones settle into a rhythm.

Why It Happens

Your brain and ovaries are still building their communication system. Hormones rise and fall unevenly, which affects when  or if  ovulation happens. No ovulation = no predictable period.

It’s part of growing.

When to Check In With a Doctor

Irregular periods are expected but see a provider if:

  • Periods stop for more than 3 months
  • Bleeding is extremely heavy
  • Pain is severe
  • Periods haven’t started by age 16

Early cycles are messy. That’s not a problem it’s biology.

Your body is figuring things out, and it will get more consistent with time. And when those first cycles arrive, Tampon Tribe’s clean, organic period products make the transition easier and gentler.
